THE ICONIC LEATHER BOMBERS OF THE CINEMA

Coming from American army air bases in the 1950s, the bomber has survived the ages and is now available in numerous models. It has today become a must-have in men’s fashion .

Zoom on the iconic bombers of cinema yesterday and today!

The bomber, decades of history

Of military origin in the 1950s, the bomber jacket was worn by US Air Force pilots.

Historically, the MA-1 model has:

  • a teddy collar,
  • ribbed edges at the cuffs and waist,
  • a zipped closure,
  • as well as an orange nylon lining that made it easy to spot the drivers in case of a problem.

This model is a clever mix between the A-2 models in brown leather and shirt collar with flap pockets, and the B-15 model in khaki nylon and sheepskin collar to combat the cold at high altitude.

The garment became more popular in civilian life in the 1960s. At that time it quickly became the emblem of rebellious and trendy youth .

Today, it is found in various colors, beyond the original navy blue or olive. Nylon then gives way to leather.
